So many capable women are discouraged

Lately I’ve had a lot of conversations with women who are done. Their jobs are bleak, desolate places where the pay is scant, the demands are ratcheting up, confusion reigns, and the wrong things seem to be driving everything.

These are smart, capable, brilliant women who — if I were managing a staff — I would hire in an instant.

How is it, I keep wondering, that these talented people feel so discouraged and lost? And what can we do about it?

I believe the amazing, brilliant, capable, ethical women I know will make the internet world a better place

This is what Z Seekers is about for me.

I know the online marketing world has a pretty sleazy reputation… well-deserved, if you ask me. Sometimes when I spend time in internet marketing circles I get that creepy feeling, like I’m suddenly at the frat house basement party, wondering if my missing friend is okay. It feels slimy and selfish and greedy, and like no one is safe.

But there are other people among the internet who are classy, ethical, brilliant, and creative. And profitable. I know some of those people. I only work with these people. They give me hope and a lot of inspiration.

Another thing I’ve noticed is that the online business world is mostly made up of men.

Now, men are great. At least the men I know. Really great, and I’m privileged to know them.

But it’s my particular interest to bring more women into the internet marketing world, because I want women to benefit from this frontier as well, and because I believe the amazing, brilliant, capable, ethical women I know will make the internet world a better place.

I hope you will join us.

Why Z Seekers?

Why Z Seekers?

I’ve been asked repeatedly what’s behind this name.

First, why the Z?

The letter Z has a great sound. zzzzzzzeeeeeeeee. Strong. Clear. Not floofing around. Present. Solid. You make a commitment when you say this letter. Business requires commitment ~ a brave stance ~ being willing to speak up, even if your voice shakes. Saying yes to one thing requires a hundred no’s. You need a voice to say yes, and to say no no no no no.

Also, it has a solid base. Straight, strong line at the bottom. A good foundation to build from. Business should have a strong, solid bottom line ~ financial planning and performance that you can rely on, sitting squarely grounded in facts and proven relationships.

But on top of that groundedness, the Z pivots. It changes direction not once, but twice.  Those two pivots represent a lot of what happens in business in my experience. You start out with a solid base, and a direction, and things unfold. Adjustments need to be made. You need to start again, or change concepts, or try it a new way. This pivot often looks entirely different than the direction you thought you were headed, so it’s tempting to think (or for other well-meaning people to say), Mistake.  But no, it’s just a pivot. Smart adventurers pivot when the trail does.

It’s what’s next. I’m always asking, What’s next?  And after having a business with four “Y”s in the name, what would be next after that?  Z, of course.

Z is the ultimate letter in our alphabet. After we’ve dutifully tried everything else, been good girls and boys, if the “safe” job didn’t stick, and the years of college didn’t pay off, and the connections didn’t pan out, and we weren’t cut out for robbing banks, if we’re lucky enough to still be curious and adaptable, we end up at Z, at the ultimate.

I have been a seeker all my life. I didn’t know that was at all unusual. I don’t surf in the ocean (does boogie boarding count?), but I am exhilarated to ride the waves of building a business: meeting and exceeding the needs and desires of the customers,  curating a strong staff, providing meaningful solutions, and seeing proof of all that in customer’s faces and exponentially growing numbers. I seek internal peace, systemic equity, friendship and laughter, family health, transformation, redemption, creativity, and wonder. And I am most at home with fellow seekers, friends who reach upward with physical, spiritual, emotional, financial aspirations.

But it’s not Z Seeker. It’s Z Seekers.

Because it’s a We thing. I’ve done plenty of solo adventuring, and it’s its own kind of thrill. I’ve named this journey Z Seekers, though, because we’re going together. You will have your own unique path, as do we all… and that doesn’t mean we have to struggle in a room by ourselves. Together we can do what no one can do alone. It works cuz we’re not all broken down on the same day. We can encourage and lift each other up when we fall, and when you’re ahead on the trail, you can look back and shout with joy about the treasures you’ve found, encouraging the rest of the party. We don’t invite just anyone to this expedition. Seekers. Seekers, all.

So, this is why Z Seekers.

This is my ultimate business, the one that will use everything I’ve learned from every business I’ve worked in, managed, and owned. It’s  my chance to help you build something with a solid base and ambitious plans. Sharing what I’ve learned to help you joyfully claim your voice and focus, pivot instead of break, and set out on a joyful hunt for treasure, instead of settle.

I can’t wait to see where we go, together.
